In every industry quality control always a struggle between your conscience and money, is it true no risk no gain? Many people always knows how to address the symptoms but not the cause (治标不治本) of the quality control!

In China you cannot just rely on documentation, reports or statistic to control your production quality, these tools only good for show to clients and to penalise your quality check (QC) team on their negligent. Understandings and transparent on awareness is the key to control. Imagine only your QC team reporting on defects but the decision is on production team to continue, stop or change. The communication channel is important but only one sided effort from QC team is not enough, require the support from production team but their goal is to increase productivity. Therefore once production team aware and understand the quality on every working procedure rather waiting for your internal QC team to check, by that time already too late. Hence training your production team on understanding and awareness on quality control rather giving high authority on QC team to penalise production staff, which is more humanized management and more effective, judge for yourself.

Chinese are always too smart to push and escape from responsibility (could refer my article on “China Dirty Tricks”), therefore you cannot just simply rely on wordings to train and alert production workers or management staff. Example if the worker is illiterate do you think your notice in Chinese showing to your boss and English writing showing to your client is useful or pasting a photo at the working area to alert and teach your production worker, which is more effective? Every defect occurred in production give authority to your QC team to take photo, not using it to penalise production team but prevent dirty tricks from them. Paste the photo on comparison between right and wrong doings in production floor, showing to everyone creating more awareness directly minimise repeated occurrence and learning from mistake. Remember verbal explanations or scoldings will only break off the communication relationship channel through accumulative misinterpretations and frustrations between QC team and production team. Do you think always writing root cause analysis reports to your clients on quality failure covering your QC team and production team is good for your company reputation and performance? Simply a photo could liaise all production workers and management staffs together with QC team working in harmony controlling your factory quality, cheaper investment, faster response and better confidence for your merchandising team to face their clients!

If a photo still cannot pass the correct message to your production team, either your photo is misleading or blur because is printed in black and white, another possibility is time to change your production people because they are morons or scumbags! Remember a belated advice (马后炮) will only worsen all relationship and communication in all departments, no point pushing blame to each other. Save your time and effort, learn from mistakes by taking a photo will solve all problems, get it!
