China Thefts

Who never steal? Could be objects like mobile phone or relationship like love. All these stealing in China are very professional in skill and knowledge. Only when you try to get the cheese (碰钉子) will makes you understand your carelessness and over-confident but sometimes the lesson is heavy and no salvage, but is already too late when you discover!

Stealing objects in China is very common when you are careless. Example carrying a backpack always an open target to thefts. If you think that a lock secure on zipper head is safe, you are wrong. Chinese thefts could easily use a razor blade cut through your backpack to steal your belongings. Therefore when you shop in China especially in crowded places never carry a backpack or put in expensive belongings inside, always separate it in a waist porch or at your front pocket. If you are a foreigner especially not yellow skin even if the local passer-by saw the theft stealing your belongings they will not alert you, why? Reason because they afraid the thefts will call his gang to whack him as a whistle-blower (举报者), often happens in China. Some even seriously injured regardless on police patrol, because 1 police will never stop 10 guys beatings! Is it very ironic! Chinese thefts could also be very professional, study with a teacher (拜师学艺) especially those suffer from poverty and become a stealing gang!

So how to prevent your belongings get stolen? Firstly, eventough you are rich never wear like a rich man, this will only get attention to thefts and not showing off your wealth. Try to be low-profile like don’t carry too much cash, use credit card instead. Your passport or identity card never put together with your cash especially in a wallet, bad move will only give thefts to sell it to the black market and makes you become a criminal in China records! For gals carrying handbags try to place it at front not too low instead on your side or at your back, at least you won’t become stealing target so easily but to professional thefts, good luck.

If you are wearing jewelry necklace or bracelet try to hide into your clothing like wearing long sleeve or neck crew clothing, don’t visually open to public. Never squeeze into crowded places to be keen on gaining petty advantages (唐小便宜) during sale, even if you are a very careful person you won’t able to divert full attention on your personal belongings instead onto sale products in front of you. Thefts always take their chances in crowded places, least attention and easily pass the stolen items to their partners, hardly trace back the host.

Most people had bad experience on their mobile phone stolen or notebook, all data and contacts were lost. Sometimes you able to retrieve back by trying your luck on the second-hand market at the same area where your belonging was stolen. Reason because thefts won’t keep stolen items for too long and anxious to sell it for money, the longer they holds the more dangerous they would bring into justice. Therefore the fastest and easiest way is to sell stolen items at nearby shop. Once you find your stolen item NEVER report to police or prosecute the shopkeeper on stealing offence, just treat it as a lesson, why? Either you get whacked accusing you ruining the shopkeeper business and reputation or he reject to sell back your belonging, so who is the loser? Bare one hour, wind flat wave silent, back one step, sea wide sky (忍一时风平浪静，退一步海阔天空), understood!
