Many foreigner often complain the locals on their service (服务), attitude (态度) or conduct (行为). But does anyone realise that such behavior is part of their culture.
I believe everyone had bad experience in China on customer service. Typical example when you purchase a product at a retail shop in China if found defects you hardly get exchange or refund especially you are foreigner. Even if you complain to Association of Consumers will not give you any advantage because Chinese will always help Chinese, or I should say the phone call will never get through! Other details could refer to “after-sales-service”. The only thing you could counterstrike such local service is to get all attention from the public affecting his business demanding for exchange or refund, but be careful don’t get hit! Sometimes the locals also fail in complaining the local service but they are smart to use media to kill the arrogant local retailers’ business as a revenge.
Attitude usually refer to work. The locals always will use all kinds of dirty-tricks to push away responsibilities, always aim for pay rise but work lesser philosophy. The only way to strike back is to use monetary penalty but make sure you understand well on the local labor law otherwise you will easily get counterstrike by the locals! Attitude like sleeping during work or free time is part of Chinese culture as their childhood in schooling were trained to sleep during lunch break, no sleep no energy! There is no way you could complain but to let go as a way to respect their culture indirectly gaining some morale from your subordinates, you might get some unexpected positive results, trust me.
So lastly is Chinese attitude in which also part of their culture but is a “mission impossible” correction, why? After you read my article on “China-habits”, you will realise that a good habit in China is hardly to maintain but a bad habit is easily adapted. The only way is education on next generation and require decades to change their beliefs and understand on their bad habit consequences. Typical example is spitting, not many locals understand the germs and bacterial spread through air would give the public in danger especially to children. Positive childhood education is very crucial in China but how many Chinese could stand up protect and maintain good habits? Another bad habit arises very fast and becoming out of control which is “driving-in-China”. Always the rich ones bully the poor ones!

So not really on the same topic as your post, but I found this today and I just can’t resist sharing. Mrs. Agathe’s dishwasher quit working so she called a repairman. Since she had to go to work the next day, she told him, “I’ll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I’ll mail you the check. Oh, and by the way…don’t worry about my Doberman. He won’t bother you. But, whatever you do, do NOT under ANY circumstances talk to my parrot!” When the repairman arrived at Mrs. Agathe’s apartment the next day, he discovered the biggest and meanest looking Doberman he had ever seen. But just as she had said, the dog simply laid there on the carpet, watching the repairman go about his business. However, the whole time the parrot drove him nuts with his incessant cursing, yelling and name-calling. Finally the repairman couldn’t contain himself any longer and yelled, “Shut up, you stupid ugly bird!” To which the parrot replied, “Get him, Spike!”

@Sam I know what your mean. In todays economy its tough to find a job that pays good enough to live on and is stable . I have found that if you just work hard and are consistent you can succeed. Look at the poster of this page , they are clearly hard working and have just been consistent over time and are now enjoying at least what would appear as somewhat of a success. I would encourage everyone to just keep hustling and moving forward.
